The Charleston County Democratic Party is hosting a gubernatorial candidate forum Friday evening in Charleston ahead of South Carolina’s Democratic primary.
Two Candidates Expected to Participate
The event will take place at Greater St. Luke AME Church.
Democratic candidates invited to attend include:
- Jermaine Johnson
- Mullins McLeod
- Billy Webster
According to party leaders, the forum is designed to give voters a chance to hear directly from candidates seeking the party’s nomination for governor.
McLeod Declines Invitation
Charleston attorney Mullins McLeod declined to participate.
In a letter to county party leadership, McLeod said he had concerns about political “insiders” influencing the process and questioned whether local party leaders were acting as neutral organizers.
Event Schedule
Organizers said the evening will begin with a meet-and-greet at 5:30 p.m.
The candidate forum is scheduled to run from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Attendees are encouraged to register in advance.
Primary Election Approaching
South Carolina’s Democratic primary election is scheduled for June 9.
