A South Carolina woman has been charged with attempted murder after authorities found a vulnerable adult living in extremely poor conditions inside a Hardeeville home.
Caregiver Arrested
Shana Latrelle Saxon, who authorities identified as the person’s primary caregiver, was arrested on May 30 following an investigation by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
She is charged with attempted murder and neglect of a vulnerable adult.
Welfare Check Leads to Discovery
Deputies responded to a welfare check and forced their way into the home after finding the front door nailed shut.
Inside, authorities found a bedridden and nearly non-verbal vulnerable adult living without electricity, running water, or adequate food.
Victim Hospitalized
The individual was taken to a medical facility for treatment.
According to investigators, medical staff determined the person was severely malnourished and emaciated.
Investigation Continues
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges could be filed as more information becomes available.
