CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. – Travelers at Charleston International Airport can expect construction over the next month as the airport adds a third Explosive Detection System (EDS) to its baggage belt system.

Increased Screening Capacity

The new EDS machine, exclusively for TSA use, will automate the scanning of all baggage. This addition will increase the airport’s capacity by allowing 660 more bags to be screened per hour.

Construction Expected in Baggage Area

During the installation of the new system, travelers will notice construction in the baggage handling area. The work is expected to continue over the next month.
