CHARLESTON, S.C. – An asphalt spill caused significant traffic disruptions on the Westmoreland Bridge heading toward West Ashley on Monday. Fortunately, the situation has since been resolved, and traffic has returned to normal.
Incident Details
The Charleston Police Department (CPD) issued a traffic alert earlier in the day, notifying drivers that the Westmoreland Bridge was reduced to one lane due to an asphalt spill. The spill caused delays for motorists, who were advised to use caution while traveling through the area.
Traffic Resumes Normally
As of 5:07 p.m., the CPD confirmed that the bridge has been cleared, and all lanes are back open. With the spill cleaned up, traffic is now flowing smoothly once again, though drivers are still encouraged to remain cautious.
For now, the Westmoreland Bridge is fully operational, and commuters can resume their normal routes without any further hindrance.
