North Charleston, S.C. – A 64-year-old man from Ladson was arrested Wednesday following an investigation into the theft of copper from a construction site for the new Roper Hospital in North Charleston.
Details of the Theft
The North Charleston Police Department responded to a burglary report at the construction site on Mall Drive on Tuesday. A construction foreman informed authorities that copper had been stolen from the rear left side of the building. Upon further investigation, it was determined that approximately $35,000 worth of copper had been taken.
Arrest and Charges
Police identified the suspect as Lenard Brightman, 64, of Ladson. He was arrested on Wednesday and charged with second-degree burglary and theft of non-ferrous metals. Brightman was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center.
