Police in Charlotte carried out a major weekend operation that led to multiple arrests and the seizure of drugs, weapons, and cash.
Operation Targets Crime Hotspots
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said the initiative, known as “Operation Queen City Safe,” focused on areas north and west of uptown Charlotte. The goal of the operation was to reduce crime by targeting drug activity, illegal firearms, and individuals believed to be involved in violent incidents.
Results of the Operation
Officials reported that the effort had a strong impact in the targeted areas. Police made 21 arrests during the operation and carried out 174 traffic stops across the city. In addition, officers issued 31 citations during the enforcement effort.
Authorities also seized a significant amount of illegal items, including about 613 grams of narcotics, nine firearms, and more than $5,700 in cash. These findings, according to police, show the scale of illegal activity that was being addressed.
Joint Effort by Multiple Agencies
The operation involved support from several law enforcement agencies, including North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Officials said working together helped increase the reach and effectiveness of the crackdown.
Investigation Continues
Police have not yet released detailed information about the individuals who were arrested or the exact charges they may face. Authorities also reminded the public that everyone taken into custody is considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
