A 19-year-old was detained in North Charleston after allegedly breaking into multiple automobiles

A 19-year-old man was arrested early Friday morning after police said he was caught breaking into multiple vehicles at a North Charleston apartment complex.

Suspect Arrested at Apartment Complex

According to the North Charleston Police Department, officers responded to the Assembly Apartments on O’Hear Avenue around 4 a.m. after receiving reports of a person entering vehicles in the parking lot.

The caller told police the suspect was checking numerous vehicles throughout the complex.

Multiple Vehicles Targeted

Officers quickly located Montrell Keon Warthen Jr., 19, in a nearby breezeway.

During their investigation, police found several vehicles that appeared to have been searched, with consoles left open and belongings scattered inside.

Authorities said at least six vehicles showed signs of being rummaged through.

Charges Filed

Police reported that Warthen was positively identified as the person seen entering the vehicles.

He was arrested and charged with three counts of breaking into motor vehicles.

Taken to Jail

Warthen was transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center without incident as the investigation continues.
