North Charleston police arrest 14-year-old following report of minors firing handguns

A 14-year-old has been arrested after North Charleston police responded to reports of gunfire in a neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.

Juvenile Arrested on Firearm Charges

According to the North Charleston Police Department, officers were called to the area of Califf Road and Marietta Street around 4:30 p.m. following reports that juveniles were firing a handgun.

Suspects Attempted to Flee

When officers arrived, they observed a group of juveniles trying to run from the area.

Police said most of the individuals were quickly detained as officers investigated the incident.

Firearm Recovered

During the investigation, officers were led to Dobson Street, where they recovered a firearm believed to have been involved.

Charges Filed

The 14-year-old was charged with discharging a firearm within city limits and possession of a firearm by a person under 18.

Police said the juvenile was transported to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.
