AUGUSTA, Ga. — A 7-year-old from Augusta was injured in a shooting incident after a 9-year-old discharged a gun while playing with it, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
Incident Details
The sheriff’s office responded to the 200 block of Sapelo Circle around 3:25 p.m. on Sunday after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies learned that a 9-year-old child had found his mother’s boyfriend’s gun and began playing with it.
While handling the firearm, it discharged, striking the 7-year-old in the finger. Fortunately, the injury was minor, and the 7-year-old was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Investigation Underway
The incident is under investigation by the Criminal Investigative Division of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities have not released further details at this time.
