Federal charges brought in connection with death of Charleston attorney David Aylor

Charleston, South Carolina – According to federal court records, a suspect is facing drug-related allegations in the death of prominent Charleston attorney David Aylor in 2023.

Levi Phillip Miles pleaded guilty on Nov. 10 to two counts of possessing and distributing fentanyl and oxycodone, both of which are Schedule II banned narcotics.

Aylor died on January 1, 2023, in his downtown Charleston residence. The coroner declared his death accidental, with the cause specified as combined drug poisoning.

Miles is charged of supplying a drug containing fentanyl at least once between January 2022 and January 2023.

According to the terms of the plea deal, Miles agreed that the distribution of the substance “resulted in the death of D.FA. from the use of the substance.” Aylor’s full name is David Fletcher Aylor.

Aylor and Miles have previously worked together, with Miles working as an investigator on some of Aylor’s legal cases, including the one involving former North Charleston police officer Michael Slager.

On November 11, Miles’ attorney told News 2 that his client had not been detained and that he “looks forward to the court hearings and fully explaining things then.”

When death happens, the offense carries an enhanced mandatory minimum penalty of 20 years in prison, but according to the plea deal, prosecutors agreed not to pursue that sentence in exchange for Miles’ cooperation.

Court records show that an arraignment has not yet been set.
