Two arrested on drug and gun accusations following a traffic stop between Ashley Phosphate and I-26.

A routine traffic stop in South Carolina turned into a serious case involving drugs and weapons, leading to the arrest of two individuals.

Traffic Stop in North Charleston

The incident happened near the intersection of Ashley Phosphate Road and Interstate 26 in North Charleston. Officers from the North Charleston Police Department were on patrol when they noticed a vehicle with a broken taillight.

Police said the driver changed lanes multiple times before finally stopping near an entrance ramp, which raised suspicion.

Initial Observations by Officers

During the stop, officers reported noticing signs that led them to investigate further. They allegedly smelled drugs inside the vehicle and saw a box of ammunition on the passenger-side floor.

When questioned, both the driver and passenger denied having any weapons.

Search of the Vehicle

After the driver refused permission to search the car, a K-9 unit from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office was called to assist.

The police dog conducted a scan and alerted officers, giving them legal grounds to search the vehicle.

During the search, officers reportedly found:

  • A clear substance that tested positive for fentanyl
  • A firearm inside a backpack

Arrest of Suspects

The driver was identified as Dustin Mathis Jones, 35, from Elloree. The passenger was identified as Kristen Elizabeth Weavor, 36.

Both were taken into custody at the scene.

Additional Discovery at Detention Center

After being taken to the detention centre, police said a further search of Weavor revealed pills believed to be diazepam.

Charges Filed

Jones is facing multiple serious charges, including drug trafficking and firearm-related offences. Authorities also noted his prior criminal history, which added to the severity of the charges.

Weavor has also been charged with several offences, including drug trafficking, possession of controlled substances, and bringing contraband into a jail.
