The incident took place in Philadelphia, where 21-year-old Sean Hernandez has been charged with multiple offences, including murder and child endangerment.

During the hearing, a forensic expert testified that the child suffered both suffocation and blunt force trauma to the head and body.

Events leading to the tragedy
According to the child’s mother, Ka’Nijah Bean, the incident began on December 8, 2025, when she, Hernandez, and the child arrived at his home.
She told the court that Hernandez became angry with the toddler and took her to a basement room, where she was left alone and crying.
Later, he allegedly assaulted the child multiple times, including hitting her while she was asleep.
Allegations of continued abuse
The mother described a frightening situation where she felt unable to intervene due to fear for her own safety. She claimed Hernandez had previously threatened her with weapons.
She also told the court that the child was seen struggling to breathe, while Hernandez allegedly continued his violent actions.
Investigators say the child was later found unresponsive and taken to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where she was pronounced dead.
Others charged in the case
Two other individuals, identified as Anthony Lowrie and Alycia McNeill, were present in the house at the time. Authorities say they were upstairs and later accused of misleading police about what happened.
They have been charged with obstruction of justice.

Prosecutors also shared text messages allegedly sent by Hernandez to the child’s mother after the incident. In these messages, he reportedly asked her to protect him and made promises in exchange for her support.
