CCSO is still hunting for leads in a 15-year-old homicide case.

A long-unsolved case in South Carolina is once again in focus as authorities ask for public help, even 15 years after a young man’s death.

Cold Case in Charleston County

The case involves the death of 23-year-old Joseph N. Hymes, whose body was discovered in Charleston County in April 2005.

He was found in a roadside ditch on Pineview Road after being reported missing by his family.

Last Known Movements

Investigators said Hymes was last seen leaving his mother’s home in the Ardmore area of Charleston a few days before his body was found.

At the time, his sudden disappearance raised concerns among relatives, who reported him missing.

What Happened That Night

On April 29, 2005, a nearby resident reported hearing a sound that seemed like a firecracker. Later, authorities confirmed that the sound was actually gunfire.

This gunshot is believed to be what led to Hymes’ death.

Investigation Over the Years

Over the years, detectives have:

  • Questioned several of Hymes’ friends
  • Reviewed available evidence
  • Followed multiple leads

Despite these efforts, no suspect has ever been officially identified.

Police Renew Appeal for Information

Now, after 15 years, authorities are once again asking the public for help. Investigators believe that someone may still have important information that could help solve the case.

Anyone who knows something is encouraged to contact Detective Barry Goldstein.
