Deputy fired after arrest
The case involves 32-year-old Justine Lopez-Rodriguez, who worked with the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.
He was arrested on March 13 and charged with felony evidence tampering. Following his arrest, he was immediately dismissed from his role as a deputy and removed from his position as a school resource officer at Pinecrest Academy Wesley Chapel.
Allegations of contact with a student
According to reports, a 13-year-old student came forward and told school officials that Lopez-Rodriguez had added her on Snapchat earlier in 2026.
The student said they communicated regularly over several weeks. Initially, their conversations were described as casual, covering topics like food, sports, and daily activities.
Photo of remains allegedly shared
The situation became serious when the student claimed that on March 1, Lopez-Rodriguez sent her a disturbing image. The photo allegedly showed what appeared to be human remains in a wooded area.
She described seeing details such as a rib cage, clothing, and a natural setting, which raised concerns among investigators.
Image linked to active investigation
Authorities said the description matched a recent investigation involving skeletal remains. Investigators identified that Lopez-Rodriguez had been present at that scene and was the primary deputy involved.
When questioned, he initially denied sending such images but later admitted to taking photos at the scene. He also acknowledged that it was possible the image had been shared with the student.
Evidence tampering charge
Investigators found multiple photos of the remains on his phone. They also noted that he had deleted the Snapchat app during the investigation.
This led to the evidence tampering charge, as officials believed the deletion may have been an attempt to remove potential evidence.
Case dismissed but consequences remain
Court records show that the charge against Lopez-Rodriguez was dropped. However, no official reason for the dismissal has been publicly shared.
Despite the case being dropped, he has already lost his law enforcement career and school position.
