FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. — Firefighters responded to a house fire Saturday in the Monticello community after a hair dryer left on a mattress sparked the blaze, officials said.

Fire Response

Crews were dispatched around 8:10 p.m. to the 2800 block of Founder Drive for a reported residential structure fire. Firefighters arrived within three minutes and found a two-story single-family home with an active fire in a downstairs bedroom.

Firefighters quickly began suppression efforts and contained the fire to the bedroom where it started. The burning mattress was removed from the home to prevent the fire from spreading further.

Investigation and Cause

Investigators determined the fire was accidental. It started after a hair dryer was left on the mattress, officials said.

Damage and Safety

No injuries were reported. After securing the scene and completing overhaul operations, the home was turned back over to the occupant without further incident.
