Friends and supporters of Christa Bauer Gilley say the Summerville community is continuing to rally around her family as the man accused of killing her fights extradition from Italy.
Husband Accused in 2023 Killing
Authorities allege Lee Gilley killed his pregnant wife in Texas in 2023.
Investigators said he later removed his ankle monitor, obtained a fake passport, and fled the United States before trial.
International authorities later captured him in Italy, where he is currently contesting extradition back to the U.S.
Friends Remember Christa’s Life
Friends from Summerville High School said they want people to remember Christa beyond the criminal case.
Longtime friend Cara Kelly described her as caring, devoted to family, and excited about motherhood.
Supporters say the case has deeply affected the close-knit Summerville community where Christa grew up.
“Justice for Christa” Movement Grows
Community members have organized a “Justice for Christa” campaign that includes:
- Fundraisers

- Golf tournaments
- Purple ribbons and flags displayed throughout town
Family friend Tabatha Blanton said the Bauer family has spent years supporting local events, schools, and businesses.
Children to Remain With Grandparents
Supporters are also following court proceedings involving Christa’s children.
According to friends of the family, a judge recently ruled that the couple’s two children will remain in the care of Christa’s parents in Texas.
Friends say the children have adjusted well while surrounded by family support and community care.
