Summerville man charged for escaping a DUI crash in North Charleston.

A Summerville man was arrested Sunday night after police said he caused a crash while driving under the influence and then fled the scene in North Charleston.

Crash on Dorchester Road

North Charleston police responded around 9 p.m. to a crash near Dorchester Road and Marilyn Drive. Officers found a woman injured outside her damaged vehicle with the airbag deployed.

Witnesses told police the other driver ran from the scene toward a nearby home.

Suspect Located by Police

Authorities later identified the suspect as Romeigus Maurice Brown and found him at a nearby residence.

Police said Brown smelled strongly of alcohol and admitted he had been drinking. Officers also said he knew his driver’s license was suspended.

Charges Filed

Brown was charged with first-offense DUI, failure to render aid and provide information, and driving under suspension, second offense.

Police said he refused both breath and blood alcohol tests after being taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
