A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting incident in North Charleston, South Carolina, that occurred in February 2026. Mario Lavell Burgess, 31, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including assault and battery in the first degree, firing into a dwelling, and felony possession of a firearm. At the time of his arrest, Burgess was already being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center for unrelated charges.
The February Incident
The shooting took place on February 23, 2026, when police responded to reports of gunfire in the 8400 block of Yadkin Circle. Investigators revealed that the incident stemmed from a custody exchange between a man and a woman, which escalated into an argument. During the altercation, one of the men allegedly fired a shot into the air, prompting additional gunfire to come from a nearby apartment.
The exchange of shots caused significant property damage, including damage to two apartments and two parked vehicles. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the incident.
Investigation and Charges
Following the investigation, Burgess was identified as a suspect and charged in connection with the shooting. He is the second individual to be charged in this case. The authorities are continuing to gather information, and the case remains under investigation.
