A 54-year-old man has been arrested in North Charleston after officers discovered narcotics in his vehicle during a traffic stop on Tuesday afternoon. Shawn David Bucholz faces charges of possession of cocaine base, third offense, and possession of fentanyl, third offense.
Traffic Stop and Discovery of Drugs
The arrest took place around 3 p.m. when North Charleston police officers were conducting proactive patrols at the Budget Inn. They observed Bucholz’s vehicle briefly stop at the motel before leaving. Officers initiated a traffic stop after noticing several violations, including Bucholz not wearing a seatbelt, speeding, and having a broken headlight.
During the stop, Bucholz appeared nervous and made suspicious movements. Officers detected a burnt odor, typically associated with narcotics use. Upon searching him and his passenger, officers found 0.1 grams of a substance that tested positive for both cocaine and fentanyl. Bucholz admitted it was crack cocaine.
Search and Arrest
A K-9 unit was called in to search the vehicle, leading to the discovery of additional containers with drug residue. Bucholz was arrested and booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center. He now faces serious charges for his third offense of possessing both cocaine base and fentanyl.
