A tragic road accident in Charleston, South Carolina, has claimed the life of a young motorcyclist, leaving the local community in shock. Authorities have now confirmed the identity of the victim and shared initial details about how the incident took place.
Victim Identified in Fatal Crash
The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Codie Hill, a 23-year-old resident of North Charleston. According to officials, he passed away at 7:24 a.m. at the Medical University of South Carolina after suffering serious injuries in the crash.
How the Accident Happened
The accident occurred early Thursday morning around 6:40 a.m. Police officers responded to the scene after receiving reports of a collision involving a motorcycle and an 18-wheeler.
Initial reports suggest that the motorcycle was moving northbound on Clements Ferry Road near Marina Drive in Charleston. At the same time, an 18-wheeler was turning onto the road.
During this moment, the motorcycle hit the rear of the truck. The impact was severe and caused the rider to be thrown off the motorcycle.
Impact and Injuries
After being ejected, the rider struck a shipping container that was being carried by the truck’s trailer. This added to the seriousness of the injuries.
Emergency teams quickly arrived at the scene and rushed the motorcyclist to the hospital. Despite medical efforts, he later died due to the injuries sustained in the crash.
Investigation Underway
Police have confirmed that the case is still under investigation. At this stage, no charges have been filed, and authorities are working to understand the exact sequence of events.
