CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. — A jury has been selected for the attempted murder trial of Camile Jade Flores, who is accused in a 2020 Charleston County shooting prosecutors say was linked to a marijuana deal.
Details of the Case
Prosecutors allege that Flores helped arrange a marijuana deal with 20-year-old Jermaine Snyder, who was shot in the face at a Carriage Lane apartment complex in September 2020. Investigators have pointed to cellphone records, surveillance footage, and recorded jail calls that they say connect Flores to the shooting. Flores has denied pulling the trigger.
Legal Motions and Issues
On Tuesday, attorneys spent hours arguing various motions before opening statements were expected to begin on Wednesday morning. One of the main motions involved whether the trial could continue without Flores physically present in court.
Prosecutors presented Ring camera footage showing Flores at home after court proceedings began that morning. Flores’ defense team argued she had been notified about the court, but not that the trial could proceed in her absence. Ultimately, Judge Jennifer McCoy ruled that the trial could continue without Flores present.
Additionally, attorneys discussed statements related to co-defendant Deshawn Waring and whether some of his statements could be used during the trial, despite his absence. There were also arguments about whether the victim’s stepmother could stay in the courtroom before and after her testimony.
Trial Continues
Opening statements are expected to begin Wednesday morning as attorneys work through additional motions.
