A man is accused of fatally shooting his wife following an argument in Rockledge, Pennsylvania on Saturday night, according to authorities.
Jose Luna, 59, has been charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder and prohibited possession of a firearm in the death of his wife, Alisett Schubert, 48, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office said.
Argument Escalated After Party
According to an affidavit of probable cause cited by local media, Luna told investigators he was angry after Schubert allegedly “disrespected him” at a party earlier that evening. As the couple drove home in her silver Nissan Murano, they continued arguing.
Near Fillmore Street and Huntingdon Pike, Schubert reportedly told Luna to get out of the vehicle. Authorities allege the two struggled over a .38 caliber revolver that was registered to Schubert. Luna allegedly gained control of the gun and shot her multiple times as she attempted to flee the SUV.
A driver with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) reported hearing gunshots and seeing a man exit the passenger side before opening the driver’s door, after which the woman fell from the vehicle. Police found Schubert outside the SUV with multiple gunshot wounds. She later died at a hospital.
Arrest and Prior Abuse Allegations
Authorities said Luna was located about a mile from the scene. When officers approached, he allegedly attempted to shoot himself, but the firearm was out of ammunition. He was taken into custody.
Prosecutors also allege that Luna called Schubert’s mother after the shooting to say her daughter was dead and that he wanted to kill himself. Court documents cited by local media indicate Schubert had previously confided in a friend about alleged physical and emotional abuse.
Luna is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on March 5.
