A Louisiana woman has been arrested and charged with negligent homicide following the drowning death of a 3-year-old child at an in-home daycare, authorities said.
Child Drowned at Home Daycare
According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a drowning call at a residence in Prairieville on May 18.
Emergency responders performed CPR before the child was airlifted to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The victim was identified as 3-year-old Ian Perez.
Daycare Operator Arrested
Authorities arrested 37-year-old Joann Johnson on June 3 after obtaining a warrant in connection with the child’s death.
Investigators said Johnson was operating an in-home daycare at the time of the incident. Officials also stated that the daycare was not licensed.
Surveillance Video Reviewed
According to investigators, surveillance footage showed two young children playing near a backyard swimming pool without safety equipment.
Authorities allege the child fell into the pool and remained unattended for about 20 minutes before being discovered.
Released on Bond
Johnson was charged with negligent homicide and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.
She was later released after posting a $100,000 bond. The case remains under investigation.
