According to the Hallandale Beach Police Department, officers were notified around 2:40 p.m. Friday that the infant was being treated at a local hospital following the attack at a residence on Southeast Ninth Court.
Attack During Diaper Change
Police said the family’s six-year-old American Bulldog attacked the child while the mother was changing his diaper. The mother reportedly pulled her son away but was also bitten during the struggle.
The child’s father told local media that a passerby helped transport the mother and child to a nearby hospital. The infant was later airlifted to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood for further treatment.
Authorities confirmed the child is currently in stable condition.
Dog Surrendered, Investigation Ongoing
After the incident, a family member secured the dog and requested assistance in removing the animal from the home. The dog is now in the custody of Broward County Animal Care and Control, which classified the situation as an urgent response. The family has surrendered the animal.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing as they continue gathering information and speaking with those involved.
