Two people are facing capital murder charges after a deadly shooting outside a hookah lounge in San Antonio, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
Joseph Amador, 34, and Lauren Machado-Juarez, 35, were arrested and charged in connection with the shooting at Myst Hookah + Ultra Lounge. Authorities identified the victims as 27-year-old Derek Brown and 50-year-old Kyung Lee.
Fight Inside, Gunfire Outside
Police say the pair were inside the lounge late Tuesday night when they became involved in a fight. Security removed them from the business.
Roughly five minutes later, investigators allege Machado-Juarez drove a Ford Fusion back toward the lounge with the headlights off. After passing the establishment, she reportedly turned around, positioning the vehicle so the passenger — identified as Amador — could fire toward patrons seated on the outdoor patio.
Witnesses told authorities approximately 20 shots were fired. Two people were killed in the gunfire.
One witness described hearing the shots shortly after entering the building and initially thinking nothing of it until seeing two victims on the ground, prompting panic.
Arrest and Evidence Recovered
Investigators identified the suspect vehicle and tracked down its registered owner. Two days later, detectives observed the suspects leaving an apartment and entering the same car. Both were arrested, and police say a handgun was recovered from the vehicle.
At the time of their arrests, both Amador and Machado-Juarez allegedly had outstanding warrants unrelated to the shooting.
The case remains under investigation.
