A mother of five, who was having a smoke break from her job at Bank of America, was randomly shot outside the branch, according to her relatives.

Ina Michelle Lang, a 50-year-old Bank of America employee of nearly 20 years, was fatally shot outside a Charlotte, North Carolina branch on Friday, February 6, 2026. She was found with a gunshot wound around 10:30 a.m. in the 9700 block of Callabridge Court and pronounced dead at the scene.

Suspect Arrest

Police arrested 22-year-old Sam’on Andrew Smith the same day, charging him with first-degree murder; he is held without bond at Mecklenburg County Jail. He was taken into custody at his mother’s house after a SWAT situation, though his uncle described him as a “good dude” not involved in street crime.

Victim Background

Lang worked as a Senior Banker, was a wife to Mike, mother of five, and known for her strong work ethic and motherly spirit toward colleagues. Her family believes she was targeted during a smoke break behind the bank.

Investigation Status

No motive has been released, and the shooting appears isolated with no ongoing public threat. A GoFundMe by co-workers supports funeral costs and her family. A memorial now stands near the site.
