Gregory Zecca, a 39-year-old Florida man and stepson of Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman, was arrested on February 3, 2026, for the July 19, 2025, fatal shooting of his 13-year-old son at a Naples apartment. Authorities charged him with aggravated manslaughter of a child with a firearm and using a firearm while under the influence, citing his blood alcohol level of approximately 0.116—above Florida’s 0.08 legal limit—and THC in his system.
Incident Details
The group, including Zecca, his son, friend Christopher Jones, and their girlfriends, had been drinking at a bowling alley before returning to Jones’s apartment on Sumter Grove Way to watch a UFC fight. Zecca and Jones were “dry firing” and practicing drawing firearms from waistbands in the kitchen with the boy present; the gun was initially unloaded but a magazine was reinserted, leading Zecca to discharge a shot into his son’s chest.
Jones called 911 after the boy collapsed; responding deputies noted alcohol on Zecca and marijuana at the scene, and Zecca was placed on a psychiatric hold due to distress. The shooting occurred during the boy’s last days in Florida before returning to Colorado under a custody arrangement.
Legal Proceedings
Zecca’s arraignment is set for March 2, 2026, following a thorough investigation involving witness statements, forensics, and toxicology analysis confirming impairment. Sheriff Kevin Rambosk called it a “heartbreaking and preventable tragedy.” Court documents note Zecca’s firearms experience from working with Chapman.
