Eight inmates escaped from Louisiana’s Riverbend Detention Center in East Carroll Parish on January 30, 2026, around 1:20 a.m., but all were recaptured within 24 hours through a multi-agency effort. The fugitives—Savion Wheeler (21/31), Hugo Molina (27), Trenton Taplin (29), Kolin Loney (21), Kevin Slaughter Jr. (25), Destin Brogan (22), Krisean Salinas (21), and Kopelon Vicknair (19)—were labeled violent offenders facing charges like murder, robbery, and assault.

Escape and Manhunt

Details on the breakout method remain undisclosed, prompting a separate East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s investigation. LSP’s Critical Response Emergency Search Team (CREST) led the recapture with partners including U.S. Marshals, FBI, local sheriffs, and Yazoo City PD, transferring all to Angola State Penitentiary.

Recaptures unfolded in waves: Slaughter and Loney by 10 p.m. Friday; Salinas, Brogan, and Vicknair just after midnight Saturday; Wheeler, Molina, and Taplin soon after.

Inmate Profiles

Several had serious priors: Brogan and Loney charged with second-degree murder; Taplin linked to a fatal shooting; Vicknair awaiting homicide sentencing; Slaughter with drugs, robbery, and abuse.

Official Response

Attorney General Liz Murrill offered her Fugitive Apprehension Unit’s aid, praising the “outstanding” teamwork amid a winter storm. LSP urged public tips via 318-345-0000 or anonymous hotlines.
