Anthawn Ragan, 31, pleaded guilty on January 29, 2026, to 14 felony charges, including first-degree murder, in the 2013 armed robbery and shooting death of 10-year-old Aaron Vu at a North Miami nail salon.
Incident Overview
Ragan and an accomplice stormed the salon on November 22, 2013, demanding money from staff and customers before Ragan fired shots, killing Aaron and wounding his father, Hai Vu. This crime was part of a month-long spree that also included robberies at a Royal Castle, a dry cleaner, and the 2013 murder of 21-year-old Luis Perez, for which Ragan received life without parole in 2025.
Court Proceedings
Facing trial, Ragan entered the plea and waived a jury for sentencing, leaving the decision to the judge. Prosecutors seek the death penalty or another life term for Aaron’s murder.
Sentencing Ahead
Ragan returns to court on February 4, 2026, for the penalty phase.
