A man was fatally shot over gold coins, which the killer then attempted to exchange at a pawn shop for gold bars.

Roger Swedzinski, 67, was found fatally shot in his Fort Wayne, Indiana, home basement on July 26, 2025, with his gun safe open and valuables scattered. Authorities reported several American Eagle gold coins missing from the home. Gustin, 22, was captured on camera two days later at a pawn shop exchanging the stolen coins for a gold bar.​

Gustin pleaded guilty in December 2025 to felony murder and using a stolen gun, leading prosecutors to drop murder and burglary charges. Allen Superior Court Judge David Zent imposed the 55-year sentence on January 5 or 6, 2026, per the plea agreement. Swedzinski had listed the coins for $4,400 on Facebook Marketplace before the incident.

Swedzinski cherished his role as a grandfather, known for fun outings like ice cream trips with his grandchildren. His obituary highlighted his joyful family life.​
