Nikolas Anthony Cummings, 32, and Tashaye Driaunah Brown, 31, face felony charges of child neglect and neglect of an elderly adult after authorities discovered horrific living conditions in their Palm Coast, Florida home on Westmoreland Drive. A welfare check on January 13, 2026, revealed a 1-year-old toddler and an 81-year-old (or 87-year-old) relative living amid roach infestations, feces, garbage, moldy expired food, and overwhelming odors of urine and decay.
Discovery of Conditions
Flagler County Fire Rescue first entered the trash-strewn residence, noting sticky surfaces, cockroach droppings, and insects crawling from the elderly man’s urine-soaked mattress and stained clothing. Deputies later found the toddler asleep in a Pack ‘n Play overrun with roaches, which Brown admitted she “shook out” nightly before spraying Raid around the base—a method deemed hazardous and ineffective.
Victim Conditions
The elderly man, unable to walk, feed, or care for himself, had untreated scabs, insects in his socks, and unchanged clothes for a week; he was hospitalized. The toddler faced constant insect exposure in his infested enclosure, with detectives removing bugs repeatedly.
Arrest and Aftermath
Cummings and Brown, who claimed to be the victims’ sole caretakers after moving in two years prior, were arrested and held on $15,000 bond at Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, with no-contact orders. The child went to family custody, DCF was notified, and Sheriff Rick Staly condemned their “zero effort” in maintaining basic hygiene. Court dates include February 4.
