A tragic early morning crash in South Carolina has claimed the lives of two people. The accident happened on Interstate 26 near Columbia and involved a wrong-way driver, leading to a deadly head-on collision.
Deadly Crash on I-26 Near Columbia
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 2:25 a.m. near the 107.5 mile marker in the Bush River Road area.
The incident involved two vehicles:
- A 2023 Hyundai sedan
- A 2018 Nissan SUV
Wrong-Way Driving Led to Collision
Officials said the Hyundai sedan was travelling east in the westbound lanes of the interstate. This means the vehicle was going in the wrong direction.
The car then collided head-on with the Nissan SUV, which was travelling west in the correct lane. Head-on crashes are often severe due to the direct impact between vehicles.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the incident. Officials will look into factors such as:

- Whether alcohol or other factors were involved
- Road and visibility conditions at the time
