A Pendleton High School student died and two others were injured after a single-vehicle crash in Anderson County over Memorial Day weekend.
Teen Killed in Pendleton Crash
According to the Anderson County Coroner’s Office, 16-year-old Spencer James Martin died following the crash on Five Forks Road in Pendleton.
Authorities said Anderson County 911 received the call just before 12:30 a.m. on May 25.
Crash Details Released
Preliminary investigators said Martin was riding in the front passenger seat of a vehicle when the car left the roadway and crashed into a tree.
Two other people inside the vehicle were injured and taken for treatment.
The coroner ruled Martin’s death accidental and said he died from multiple traumatic injuries.
Pendleton High School Responds
Pendleton High School confirmed Martin was a student at the school.
In a statement, Anderson School District 4 said the community was deeply saddened by the tragedy and offered prayers and support for the affected families.
The district also provided grief counselors for students and staff following the crash.
Community Support for Victims
School officials said students could sign cards and banners in the Pendleton High School Media Center to support the injured students and their families.
Investigation Ongoing
The Anderson County Coroner’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol continue investigating the crash.
Officials have not released additional details about what caused the vehicle to leave the road.
