Anderson County, South Carolina — A memorial service has been set for an Anderson County detective who was killed in an accident last week.

The Whitefield Fire Department announced on social media that a procession and memorial service for Mark Garrett will begin Sunday afternoon.

Garret, a long-time deputy with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office who also worked for several local fire departments and rescue squads, was killed Wednesday while riding a motorbike near Williamston.

According to the Whitefield Fire Department, Garrett’s casket will be escorted by vehicles from several departments from the Gray Mortuary in Pelzer to the NewSpring Church in Anderson at 12:45 p.m. on Sunday.

The procession will travel down S.C. Highway 8 to Interstate 85, then onto Highway 81 and Linwa Boulevard to the church.

Garrett’s family will receive friends at 2 p.m., followed by a memorial ceremony at 4 p.m. at NewSpring Church.

The fire department is urging first responders and community residents to gather along the planned route to pay their respects to Garrett.

The memorial ceremony will be accessible to the public, however there is limited seating in the sanctuary and overflow area.
