A Texas man, Jose Romero, has been charged with murder after he shot and killed his wife, Yanira Marin de Romero, during a domestic argument.

Authorities say Romero opened fire on his wife in their Harris County home while their three children were inside. The tragic incident occurred on May 2, 2023, in the Cloverleaf area, part of the Houston metro region.

A Deadly Disagreement

According to police, the shooting took place after an argument between the couple. Romero, 43, allegedly shot his wife multiple times while she was in the bathroom of their home.

Marin de Romero, 39, was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. Despite the presence of their three children, aged 3, 8, and 13, the children were not harmed.

Romero allegedly called 911 himself and confessed to the shooting. Police detained him without incident upon their arrival. In his statement to detectives, Romero explained that he killed his wife because she “didn’t take his back pain seriously,” which police say was the root of the argument that escalated into violence.

A Shattered Family

Relatives of the couple expressed their grief on social media, describing the marriage as “almost perfect” and their hearts shattered by the loss. One relative posted, “They only had each other since their adolescence and they moved forward together.

They were our family’s pride.” However, the reality of the tragedy now weighs heavily on their loved ones, who are struggling to comprehend the horrific events.

The couple’s children, who were home at the time of the shooting, will no longer have their parents together, leaving a lasting emotional impact on them. One family member posted, “Perhaps [Marin de Romero] left this world without even knowing what happened in that moment.”

Legal Proceedings

Jose Romero remains in custody at the Harris County Jail, where he is awaiting further legal proceedings. His next court appearance has not yet been scheduled, but he is facing charges of murder for the death of his wife.
