A Missouri community is mourning the loss of Amy Coon, a 45-year-old grandmother who was shot and killed outside a supermarket in Pleasant Hill on May 25. The incident happened just two years after she recovered from cancer.
What Happened?
According to police, one person was killed and another was injured during the shooting outside a local grocery store. A 16-year-old store employee was also shot and is currently recovering in hospital.
Police identified Allen Prince, 27, as the suspect. He has been charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and assault-related offences. Authorities said Prince allegedly shot himself after two armed bystanders approached him.
Who Was Amy Coon?
Amy Coon was a mother, grandmother, and cancer survivor. Family members described her as a caring person who loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Her obituary said she enjoyed sewing, crafting, gardening, and home projects. She especially loved organising sleepovers and making memories with her grandchildren.
Cancer Survivor Remembered
Neighbours told local media that Coon battled Hodgkin’s lymphoma for about a year before going into remission nearly two years ago.
Even during treatment, she remained devoted to her family and continued supporting loved ones through difficult times.
Support for Injured Teen
The 16-year-old injured in the shooting remains in recovery. A GoFundMe fundraiser created to support his medical expenses has raised more than $46,000.
