A Charleston man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly attacking a woman outside a homeless shelter and causing severe injuries.

Assault Reported Near Shelter

According to the Charleston Police Department, officers responded to the One80 Place shelter on Walnut Street around 10 p.m. on Saturday following reports of an assault in a nearby parking lot.

Woman Seriously Injured

Investigators said the suspect accused a woman in her 60s of stealing his belongings.

Police allege the man then slammed the woman to the ground and repeatedly kicked and stomped on her head.

The victim suffered serious injuries, including multiple fractures and head trauma.

Suspect Arrested

Following an investigation, detectives arrested 23-year-old Yakeem Dion Moore on Monday.

Moore has been charged with attempted murder and was booked into a local detention center.

Investigation Ongoing

The Charleston Police Department continues to investigate the incident and is asking anyone with information to contact investigators.
