Texas father killed his wife and two children before committing suicide: 'Truly no words'

A family of four found dead inside their Houston home has been identified as restaurant owners Matthew and Thy Mitchell and their two young children.

Houston Family Found Dead in Suspected Murder-Suicide

According to Houston police, the family was discovered inside their River Oaks home on May 4 after officers responded to a welfare check request.

Authorities said all four victims had gunshot wounds. Investigators believe the case was a murder-suicide and stated evidence at the scene suggested the husband shot his wife and children before killing himself.

Victims Identified by Family

The victims were identified as Matthew Mitchell, 52, his wife Thy Mitchell, 39, and their two children, Maya, 8, and Max, 4.

Thy’s sister confirmed the deaths in a social media post, describing the loss as heartbreaking and asking for privacy for the family.

Family Owned Popular Houston Restaurants

Matthew and Thy Mitchell were known in Houston as the owners of Traveler’s Table, a restaurant that opened in 2019 and became popular for its global-inspired dishes.

The couple later opened a second restaurant called Traveler’s Cart in 2024.

Friends and colleagues shared tributes online, remembering Thy as a devoted mother and successful businesswoman.

Investigation Continues

Police said the family had not been seen or heard from since the previous night before officers entered the home and found the victims.

The Houston Police Department continues to investigate the case and asked anyone with information to contact homicide detectives.
