A former Ohio surgeon could face prison time after prosecutors said he secretly gave abortion pills to his pregnant girlfriend without her consent.
Former Surgeon Enters No Contest Plea
According to the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office, 32-year-old Hassan-James Abbas pleaded no contest to several charges, including unlawful distribution of an abortion-inducing drug.
Authorities said the incident happened in December 2024 in Ohio.
Prosecutors Detail Allegations
Investigators said Abbas allegedly ordered abortion pills online using his former wife’s personal information after learning his girlfriend was pregnant and did not want an abortion.
Prosecutors claim Abbas later crushed the pills into powder and forced them into the woman’s mouth while she was sleeping at his home.
The woman reportedly escaped the residence and received treatment at a hospital after calling 911.
Additional Charges Filed
Court records show Abbas also faced charges including identity fraud, disrupting public services, and deception to obtain dangerous drugs.
As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors said some charges will be dropped during sentencing.
Sentencing Scheduled
Authorities said Abbas could face up to five years in prison and fines if convicted at sentencing, which is scheduled for June.
The State Medical Board of Ohio had previously suspended his medical license during the investigation.
