A Seattle man has been charged after police said he and another suspect brutally attacked a 77-year-old man in a random assault that was captured on surveillance video.
Seattle Man Charged in Elderly Assault Case
Ahmed Abdullahi Osman, 29, has been charged with second-degree assault in connection with the April 19 attack near downtown Seattle.
Police said a second suspect involved in the assault has not yet been arrested.
Random Attack Caught on Camera
According to investigators, the elderly victim was walking near a pharmacy close to Third Avenue and Pike Street when the two men approached him.
Surveillance video reportedly showed the victim trying to move out of their way before one suspect punched him and the other pushed him to the ground.
Police said one of the attackers then punched the victim again while he was on the sidewalk.
Victim Suffered Serious Injuries
Authorities said the 77-year-old victim had just gotten off a bus and was heading home when the attack happened.
He was hospitalized for about a week with a broken arm, broken knee, and facial injuries.
Suspects Went to McDonald’s After Assault
Police tracked the suspects through surveillance footage after the attack.
Body camera footage later showed officers confronting Osman outside a nearby McDonald’s. Police said witnesses identified him as one of the attackers.
According to reports, Osman was arrested the same night but later released before a bail hearing. Authorities later issued another arrest warrant, and police said he is not yet back in custody.
