A Utah man accused of killing his mother and stepfather is moving closer to trial more than three years after the alleged murders.

Couple Found Dead in Basement

Tryston Erickson, 30, is charged in the deaths of his mother, Jeannie Parker, 50, and stepfather, Timothy Parker, 58. Police found the couple dead from gunshot wounds inside their Spanish Fork home on March 14, 2023, after they failed to show up for work.

Investigators said the bodies were partially covered with blankets in a basement bedroom. Police also found firearms, bullet casings, blood, and signs that someone had tried to clean the scene.

Arrest After Colorado Chase

Authorities said Erickson, who lived with the couple, was missing along with his mother’s car. Police later tracked him to Colorado, where he was arrested after a high-speed chase.

During questioning, Erickson allegedly admitted to stealing the car and phone. Police also found photos of the victims’ bodies on his cellphone.

Charges and Court Proceedings

Erickson faces multiple charges, including two counts of aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, theft, abuse of a human body, weapons charges, and unlawful use of a financial card.

His case was delayed after questions about his mental competency. In December 2025, he was ruled competent to stand trial. A judge has now determined there is enough evidence for the case to move forward.

Erickson remains in custody and is scheduled to be arraigned on June 10.
