A California jury has found that Orange County financial analyst Ramy Fahim, 30, was legally sane when he fatally stabbed his co-worker, Griffin Cuomo, 23, and Cuomo’s roommate, Jonathan Bahm, 23, in April 2022.
Double Murder at Anaheim Apartment
Prosecutors said Fahim became angry with Cuomo over workplace issues, claiming he was being micromanaged and given assignments he disliked at Pence Wealth Management in Newport Beach. Authorities said Fahim waited on the roof of the victims’ apartment building before ambushing Cuomo as he was leaving for work.
Fahim stabbed both men more than 40 times each with a “hunting dagger” before police arrived. Officers found him inside the apartment.
Guilty Plea and Insanity Claim
Fahim pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder one day before trial but claimed he was not guilty by reason of insanity. Jurors only had to decide whether he was legally sane during the killings.
Prosecutors presented evidence showing Fahim planned the attack and researched how to use a schizophrenia diagnosis as a defense if he got caught. Police also found a tarp and shovel in his car.
Sentencing
The jury rejected Fahim’s insanity claim. He now faces two consecutive life sentences without parole. Sentencing is scheduled for May 13.
