California Man Sentenced in Teen Murder Case
Zuberi Sharp, 26, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of his 15-year-old half-brother, Zayde Koehohou. The incident happened in December 2024 at their family home in Newbury Park, California.
According to prosecutors, Sharp also admitted to using a weapon during the crime and causing serious injuries to the victim.
Uncle Found Teen Injured in Shed
Police said the boys’ uncle heard a loud sound coming from a shed and went to check on them. When he looked inside, he allegedly saw Sharp standing over Zayde while holding a pickaxe.
Zayde’s mother called 911 while Sharp fled from the scene.
Victim Died Before Reaching Hospital
Deputies arrived at the home and found Zayde suffering from severe head injuries. The 15-year-old, who had cerebral palsy, died before reaching the hospital.
Police later arrested Sharp at a nearby high school football field. Authorities said he was found naked and still carrying the weapon.
Mother Says Son Had Mental Health Issues
In local media interviews, the boys’ mother said Sharp struggled with mental health problems and “didn’t know what he was doing.” She also said the brothers loved each other.
The case has shocked the local community because of the victim’s young age and disability.
