An 87-year-old convicted killer has been found guilty in the murder and dismemberment of a woman in Brooklyn, according to prosecutors.
Man Convicted In 2022 Killing
The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office said Harvey Marcelin was convicted of first-degree murder, tampering with evidence, and concealment of a human corpse in the death of 68-year-old Susan Leyden.
Authorities said Leyden was last seen entering Marcelin’s apartment in East New York on Feb. 27, 2022.
Body Parts Found In Multiple Locations
Investigators said Leyden’s torso was discovered inside a black plastic bag placed in a shopping cart near Marcelin’s apartment days later.
Police later searched the apartment and found the victim’s head and limbs, along with blood, cleaning supplies, and packaging for an electric saw.
Surveillance footage reportedly showed Marcelin moving bags through the neighborhood and purchasing a saw and cleaning supplies around the time of the killing.
Victim Died From Head Trauma
The medical examiner determined Leyden died from blunt force trauma and other injuries.
Officials said Marcelin and Leyden had previously lived at the same shelter in the Bronx, though the nature of their relationship remains unclear.
Long Criminal History
Prosecutors said Marcelin had previously spent more than 50 years in prison for killing two other women in separate cases dating back to the 1960s and 1980s.
Authorities said the conviction ensures Marcelin will remain behind bars.
