A Long Island man was shot and killed by police Sunday afternoon after an alleged violent domestic incident involving his mother in Riverhead, New York.
Mother Stabbed During Incident
Police responded to reports of an escalating domestic situation around 3 p.m. Authorities said the man was armed with a knife when officers arrived at the home.
The man’s 62-year-old mother, who uses a wheelchair, suffered serious stab wounds and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police Shooting Under Investigation
Officers shot the man at the scene, where he later died. Three police officers were also treated at a hospital and later released.
The identities of the man and his mother have not been publicly released.
Authorities Reviewing Case
The New York Attorney General’s Office is investigating the police use of force, which is standard in fatal police shootings.
Neighbors told local media the family had experienced mental health and domestic issues for years. The investigation remains ongoing.
