An Amazon delivery driver has been taken into custody after allegedly striking and killing a 4-year-old boy in Kansas City, Missouri, and fleeing the scene. The tragic incident occurred on Monday evening as Tadens Joseph, the young boy, was playing at his favorite park just steps from his home.

Fatal Incident and Fleeing Driver

According to the Kansas City Police Department, the driver, whose identity has not yet been released, was in the neighborhood delivering a package when the fatal collision occurred. Tadens was crossing the street near the park when he was hit by the vehicle. Police said the driver initially stopped but then drove away from the scene without offering help or calling for assistance.

A family member of Tadens reportedly chased after the driver and confronted her. The driver allegedly denied involvement and fled the area. Tadens’ family has spoken publicly, identifying the young boy following his death.

Family’s Heartbreak and Response

Tadens’ mother shared a heartbreaking account of the incident. She explained that she was the one who chased down the suspect while she was driving away, confronting her and telling her, “You killed my son.” She also revealed that Tadens was excited about getting his first pair of glasses, with the boy telling his mother, “I can’t wait, Mom,” and “I can’t wait for my glasses” just before his death.

Tadens’ family said he loved spending time at the park, and his teacher and classmates had celebrated him getting his first glasses earlier that day when his father picked him up from school.

Amazon’s Statement and Investigation

Amazon issued a statement expressing sympathy for the family, stating, “Our deepest sympathies are with the child’s family during this incredibly difficult time. We’ll cooperate fully with the Kansas City Police Department in their active investigation and defer to them for additional details.”

While the suspect has been taken into custody, she has not yet been formally charged. The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office will determine whether charges will be filed as the investigation into the fatal collision continues.
