A University of Washington student was found fatally stabbed inside an off-campus housing complex in Seattle on Sunday night, and police are still searching for the suspect.

Student Found in Laundry Room

According to Seattle police, the victim was discovered around 10:10 p.m. inside a laundry room at the Nordheim Court housing complex. Officers and firefighters attempted lifesaving measures, but the student was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the victim is believed to be a 19-year-old transgender woman, though her identity has not yet been officially released.

Suspect Search Ongoing

Investigators are searching for a suspect described as a Black man with a beard, believed to be between 25 and 30 years old. Authorities said he fled the scene after the stabbing and should be considered armed and dangerous.

Police said they do not currently believe there is an ongoing threat to the public, but the investigation remains active.

University Responds

Following the incident, students at the housing complex were told to shelter in place before the alert was later lifted.

University President Robert Jones expressed condolences to the victim’s family and acknowledged concerns within the LGBTQIA+ community following the killing.
