Following his arrest on Stafford Road, a man was charged on various drug-related counts

A North Charleston man was arrested on multiple drug charges following a police investigation in the area of Stafford Road and Dunlap Street.

Drug Investigation Leads to Arrest

According to North Charleston Police, officers were conducting proactive patrols on June 4 when they spotted several people gathered in a wooded area near the intersection.

As officers approached, they observed items commonly associated with drug use, including flattened pieces of tin foil and straws.

Suspect Allegedly Admitted Possessing Meth

Police said James Anthony Washington told officers he had “ice,” a street name for methamphetamine.

A search of Washington allegedly uncovered a bag containing a rock-like substance.

Additional Drugs Found

Investigators said Washington directed officers to an area beneath nearby benches, where they discovered a plastic bag containing a pink powder-like substance.

Police also recovered a glass pipe with what appeared to be signs of recent use.

Field testing reportedly indicated the substance contained fentanyl and cocaine.

Multiple Charges Filed

Washington was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center following his arrest.
