Autopsy: 19-year-old discovered in Alligator Alley died from a gunshot

A South Carolina woman whose body was found partially burned near a roadway earlier this month died from a gunshot wound, according to authorities.

Woman Found Dead on Alligator Alley

Officials identified the victim as 19-year-old Aveonnah Moore.

According to the Jasper County Coroner’s Office, Moore’s body was discovered on May 9 near Alligator Alley after a passing driver reported a fire along the road.

Investigators said Moore was found deceased and partially burned.

Autopsy Revealed Cause of Death

An autopsy performed at the Medical University of South Carolina determined Moore died from a gunshot wound.

Murder Arrest Made

Authorities arrested 52-year-old Donald Smith Jr. of Savannah, Georgia, on May 13.

He has been charged with murder in connection with Moore’s death.

Multiple Agencies Assisted Investigation

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office said investigators worked with South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the Federal Bureau of Investigation during the investigation.

Officials also said those agencies helped identify Moore and notify her family.
