A 77-year-old South Carolina man has died from injuries suffered in a single-vehicle crash in Aiken County, according to officials.

Driver Dies After Aiken County Crash

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Ernest M. Gleaton of Wagener.

Officials said Gleaton died Tuesday, one day after the crash happened on Festival Trail Road.

Pickup Truck Left Roadway

According to investigators, Gleaton was driving a 2007 Ford F-150 southbound when the truck ran off the right side of the road near Airport Road.

The vehicle struck a mailbox, hit a culvert, and then crashed into a chain-link fence.

Driver Later Died at Hospital

Gleaton was transported to a hospital in Augusta, Georgia, where he later died from his injuries.

No other people were hurt in the crash.

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities have not said what caused the truck to leave the roadway.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Aiken County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate.

Toxicology results are still pending.
